The Vast majority of nursing-home residents assisted in 3+ ADLs
83% of residents in nursing homes receive help with
three or more ADLs, and only 3% required no help in them.
Bathing (97%) and dressing (88%) were the most common ADLs for which assistance was provided in 1996, according to a new report from the Public Health Service. Women (85%) were more likely than men (80%) to receive help with three or more
ADLs. Men were less likely than women to have any memory loss, but more likely to have a problem with orientation.
71% of nursing-home residents had some form of loss in either short-term memory, long-term memory, or both. Dementia occurred in almost half of all residents.
