Why Annuities are Better than CDs:  Creditor Protection

• CD assets are not protected from creditors--frequently CDs are held in joint tenancy, which results in another vulnerable asset.
• Annuities do offer some protection from creditors.  But it does depend on what type of fixed annuity:
  • Immediate annuity payments are generally more favorable to exemptions than deferred annuity "cash value" contracts.
  • Deferred "cash value" contracts are, for the most part, considered "available assets."
